In Panosophy, māyā denotes appearances in the Ocean of Consciousness, as waves and currents on and beneath the surface, inseparable from the Ocean, itself. So, what can be measured is illusory and not Reality, which transcends all distinctions that the categorizing mind might make.
This holistic view of the Universe we live in is very similar to traditional perspectives in Hinduism, which acknowledges Brahman and Atman as One, and in Buddhism, where māyā denotes ‘the continually changing, impermanent phenomenal world of appearances and forms’.
Māyā thus acts as a cloud, obscuring our view and experience of the Absolute, as the brilliant Light of Consciousness. So, if we are to realize our True Nature as superintelligent humans, in contrast to machines with so-called artificial intelligence, we need to remove the veil in an apocalyptic, revelatory awakening, which could be gradual as much as sudden.
Sanskrit ‘illusion, unreality, deception, fraud, trick, sorcery, witchcraft, magic’, related to māya ‘measuring; creating illusions’, from mā- ‘to measure, mete out, mark off’, from PIE base *me-².
